Abstract:The weak cosmic censorship conjecture in general relativity concerns the existence of naked singularities and their genericity. Although naked singularities were long expected by physicists not to occur, examples have been constructed for the Einstein–scalar field equations, the vacuum Einstein equations, and the Einstein–Euler system. In this talk, we present our forthcoming work on the construction of naked singularity solutions to the Einstein–Maxwell–charged scalar field equations. A new feature of these solutions is that they are genuinely charged: the Maxwell field admits a strictly positive lower bound as one approaches the singularity.
